MILKY TONERS AND MOISTURIZERS
What’s the Difference?
Milky toner. Cream toner. Cream-in-toner. If you’re not sure what’s what, you’re not alone and we're here to help. Different from the standard toner, a milky toner is a creamy, “milky” looking formula most often made of a water-in-oil emulsion. It functions as a deeply hydrating prep step after your serum. While they hydrate and strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier on their own, most milky toners are separate from a moisturizer and should still be used with a layer of moisturizer on top. Moisturizers are essential to keep your skin hydrated and is the last step of your routine to seal in moisture for the day or night.
What is Cream Skin Toner & Moisturizer?
The Laneige Cream Skin Toner & Moisturizer, on the other hand, is a hybrid between toner and moisturizer. Unlike a standard milky toner, it's a cream-in-toner formula that can be used as a standalone lightweight moisturizer. Depending on your preference, it can also be layered under a heavier moisturizer for deep hydration, perfect for the winter or for drier skin types.
MILKY TONERS IN YOUR KOREAN SKINCARE ROUTINE
How Should I Apply A Milky Toner?
Apply your toner following three Korean skincare principles: Prepping skin, hydration stacking, and skinimalism.
First, use toners after cleansing to prep your skin for the rest of your routine and for makeup. Second, toners can be used for hydration stacking or skin flooding—methods of layering products progressively to achieve the desired level of hydration and richness. You can layer your milky toner, applying up to seven layers and waiting 1-3 minutes between each layer, for deep hydration and glow after cleansing.
What About Cream Skin Toner & Moisturizer?
“Skinimalism” is all about achieving maximum benefits in as few steps as possible. Laneige Cream Skin Toner & Moisturizer is perfect for skinimalism enthusiasts. As a hybrid toner and moisturizer, it delivers lightweight yet deep hydration, knocking out both steps in just one.

CREAM SKIN TONER & MOISTURIZER: THE FIRST MILKY TONER
How Did We Develop Cream Skin?
Back in 2018, Laneige invented the milky toner category with Cream Skin Toner & Moisturizer. We blended a full jar of cream into tiny particles and stabilized them in liquid toner using our Micro-Blending Technology™, creating a formula that feels lightweight and absorbs more easily into the skin while deeply hydrating.
What is Cream Skin Toner Made Of?
The key ingredient is Ceramide + Peptide Complex, a unique blend of ceramide and peptides. Ceramide is an essential skincare ingredient found in milky toners, that helps deeply nourish and strengthen skin’s moisture barrier (Pub Med, Ceramides and Skin Health: New Insights). Our complex combines these benefits with visibly firming Peptides, making Cream Skin Toner & Moisturizer a unique milky toner that delivers visible firmness in addition to barrier-strengthening hydration.
YOUR ULTIMATE HYDRATION ROUTINE
Which Milky Toner Should You Choose?
If you’re looking to simplify your routine while prioritizing deep hydration, Cream Skin Toner & Moisturizer is the product for you. Cream Skin alone delivers lasting hydration and strengthens your skin’s moisture barrier as a toner and moisturizer in one, while also helping to soften and visibly firm skin. Apply daily as your toner step, morning and night, to skip through multiple layers of product application for deep hydration and glass skin glow.
What Moisturizers Can I Pair with Cream Skin Toner?
Layering a moisturizer on top is great for an extra boost of hydration, especially during the winter months. If you have normal to dry skin, use Water Bank Cream Moisturizer, our dewy cream for deep, barrier-strengthening hydration. If your skin is very dry or sensitive, use Water Bank Intensive Moisturizer for rich, balmy, comforting hydration and skin barrier repair. For combination to oily skin types, Water Bank Gel Moisturizer is a lightweight that delivers refreshing hydration.
